Technological and scientific prospections as strategic tools for intensifying the production chain of matrinxã

Abstract

This study aims to propose innovations in reproduction and larviculture protocols of two native species already produced in the Amazon region: matrinxã and lambari in a partnership between UFAM, INPA and UNESP, in addition to partner fish farms. Studies involving the reproduction of the species will use in an unprecedented way the establishment of in vitro culture to study two processes that account for failures in ovulation after hormonal induction: final maturation and ovulation. We will test in vitro the ability to induce these processes using substances known to be active such as PGF and DHP to evaluate the isolated response of follicles of these species to the different concentrations and incubation period of these substances. In another aspect, but still focused on reproduction, we will evaluate for matrinxã the possibility of using a promising substance, PGF, as a way to allow the reduction of the period of gonadal recrudescence, allowing a second attempt to spawn the same female within the same reproductive period. Finally, in order to address an aspect that is perhaps the main obstacle in the production of matrinxã, we intend to improve a larviculture protocol of this species using a biofloc system that will allow the creation in high densities, with minimal water changes and generation of effluents. We will assess whether the high turbidity of the bioflocate system's own water may contribute to the reduction of cannibalism at this stage, as well as whether the biofloc will be used as a food supplement. In this way we intend to contribute to the production chain of matrinxã and lambari in the Amazon region and throughout the country. (AU)
