Abstract

Nanotechnology and supramolecular chemistry are essential in the development of systems with functional properties, leading to gains and improvements as well as helping to investigate the phenomenology of molecular interaction processes. The development and evolution of these systems involves the synthetic design, characterization and definition of the property that is a direct consequence of the preparation arrangements. Two lines of investigation will be developed in this proposal: i. preparation and characterization of nanoparticulate gels and their application in tissue engineering; ii multicomponent supramolecular gels and controlled solids crystallization. The first topic aims at the preparation of gels containing nanoparticles of metal oxides and hydroxides (ZnO and MgOH) with defined structural properties. The nanoparticle gels will be applied in the preparation of biomedical scaffolds for use in bone tissue regeneration studies. The second addresses the synthesis and characterization of multicomponent gels and the development of an unprecedented methodology for the crystallization of polymorphs. The present research proposal encompasses high expression technological topics that will add to their respective scientific areas. (AU)
