Abstract

The proposed application aims to consolidate collaboration between two well-established research groups at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and the University Medicine of the Johannes-Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany. Here, we propose visits and exchanges of faculty staff, post-docs, and Ph.D. students, which will allow us to develop qualitatively ongoing projects, provide training to postgraduate students through seminars and workshops, and plan new collaborative grant applications for funding of research, such as DFG-FAPESP. Especially the young scientists will gain international research experience and receive further training to improve their research expertise and build their scientific careers. We see this DAAD-FAPESP Call for Proposals as an opportunity to establish a long-term international collaboration that will lead to an advance in our understanding of molecular regulation of Th17 and regulatory T (Treg) cells and its role in infections and autoimmune diseases, a common research area between both research groups.
