Territorial inequalities and responsible innovation in social policies

Abstract

This joint project aims to cross-fertilize the investigation of territorial inequalities and responsible innovation for social policies in federal countries by putting together research teams from Germany (FUB) and Brazil (UNIFESP). Its main contribution to the ongoing investigation of both teams is the opportunity for comparative research in two countries with similarities in their framework for the implementation of social policies. Germany and Brazil have in common features associated with cooperative federalism, such as a high degree of shared powers of the central and subnational governments (Länder and States) and highly entangled bureaucratic structures of the different levels of government. The main planned activities are a joint panel at the 27th IPSA World Congress (Buenos Aires, 2023), an international seminar in each country, research stays in Berlin and Sao Paulo, the submission of a special issue to a prestigious journal, and the submission of a research proposal focused on social policies and cooperative federalism to consolidate the partnership. This proposal refers to January 2023 to December 2024, but the initiative has potential to be extended beyond. (AU)
