Abstract

Designing spaces for autistic individuals must take into consideration more nuances than for non-autistic individuals. Although a well designed acoustical environment is beneficial for any person, the needs of an autistic individual may require more attention and adaptations. The ultimate goal of this project is to formulate design guidelines for more inclusive classrooms, taking into special consideration students with auditory hypersensitivity. In this proposal we describe the initial steps towards this goal, including the organization of events and a pilot test, which should provide inputs for the team to develop longer term research projects.
