Abstract

Since weaning is a phase of great stress for the piglet, additives are sought that can be inserted into the diet of these animals, stimulating consumption, improving digestibility and reducing the level of eating disorders after weaning. In order to verify the effect of the addition of bacteriocin nisin and medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) in starter diets on performance, incidence of diarrhea, blood parameters, microbiome, intestinal histology and inflammatory mediators, an experiment will be carried out in the Sector of Pig farming at the Institute of Animal Science (IZ). The following experimental diets will be tested: Negative Control - basal diet without addition of any additive; Positive Control - basal diet with the inclusion of the antibiotic Colistin (200mg/kg); NIS - basal diet including bacteriocin Nisin (0.1%); AGCM - basal diet with the inclusion of medium chain fatty acids (2kg/ton); NIS+AGCM - basal diet with inclusion of bacteriocin Nisin (0.1%) and medium chain fatty acids (2kg/ton). Seventy piglets with homogeneous weight, age 21 days and commercial strain will be used, distributed in complete randomized blocks (defined by the initial weight) with five treatments, seven repetitions (blocks) per treatment and two animals per experimental unit. The experiment will be divided into three phases, and the total experimental period will be 35 days (Phase I - 21 to 28 days of age; Phase II - 28 to 42 days of age; Phase III - 42 to 56 days of age). The animals will be weighed individually on the 1st, 7th, 21st and 35th day of the experiment, as well as the leftovers of feed daily and at the end of each phase. At the end of the experimental period, all animals will be euthanized for collection of excreta and tissues. Data will be analyzed using the SAS MIXED program. (AU)
