Abstract

The use of rumen undegradable protein sources (RUP) in the dry season can be an important strategy to overcome the nutritional deficiencies of forage in this period and increase the efficiency of N utilization in pasture animals. This study aims to evaluate the influence of rumen undegradable protein supplementation or not on ruminal intake, nutrient digestibility, metabolism and ruminal microbiota of Nellore cattle grazing in the dry season. Will be used 8 Nellore steers with approximately 230 kg body weight, castrated, rumen and duodenum cannulated, arranged in four 2x2 Latin squares (2 treatments and 2 periods), evaluating T1: grazing animals receiving only mineral salt (SM ) with urea; and T2: animals supplemented with mineral salt and 0.3% BW with RUP source, the source of RUP used will be corn gluten 60. Each animal will be kept on a 1.8 ha paddock. The intake and digestibility will be evaluated based on the use of two indicators, determining the fecal production with chromium oxide (Cr2O3) and pasture intake based on the fecal production data using indigestible neutral detergent fiber (NDFi) as internal marker. Ruminal fermentation parameters (pH, ammonia and short chain fatty acids) will be evaluated at 0h, 6, 12, 18 and 24 hours after supplementation. Blood parameters (total protein, albumin, urea and essential and nonessential amino acids), ruminal bacterial diversity and efficiency of amino acid utilization will also be evaluated. Data will be analyzed using one-way ANOVA considering four 2x2 latin squares and means will be compared using Tukey post test. (AU)
