Influence of acute and chronic stressors in spontaneously hypertensive rats on the morphofunctional characteristics of long bones

Abstract

Arterial Hypertension (AH) is part of the group of cardiovascular diseases that represent the highest percentage of causes of mortality. Evidence suggests that psychosocial factors may play an important role in the development of high blood pressure. Exposure to chronic stress has been considered a risk factor for this chronic disease. The literature also indicates that hypertension is associated with increased bone mineral loss, although this needs further investigation. Due to the relevance of the topic, much has been studied on the subject, although little attention has been given to the association of emotional factors with blood pressure. Thus, this study aims to investigate the effect of varied acute and chronic stress associated with hypertension on the skeletal system, through morphofunctional and metabolic evaluations (Histology, Immunohistochemistry and Zymography). Hannover male rats (n=40) and SHR (spontaneous hypertensive rats) (n=40) will be used, randomly divided into three large groups: control group without stress (S); acute stress group (A); group with varied chronic stress (C). There will be the following subgroups in groups A and C: control group (n=8) and subjected to stress (n=8). The rats will be euthanized on the 10th day after the beginning of the experiment, to obtain right tibia (Immunohistochemistry and Histology), left tibia (Zymography) and blood collection for analysis of plasmatic concentration of corticosterone.
