Inclusion of different levels of dry distillers grains plus solubles (DDGS) in feedlot cattle diets: effects on performance, metabolism and greenhouse gas emissions

Abstract

The objective is to evaluate the effect of inclusion levels of dry distillers grains plus solubles (DDGS) (de-oiled) in the diet of feedlot cattle on the performance, metabolism and emission of greenhouse gases (GHG). Five treatments (inclusion levels of DDGS in dry matter (DM) will be evaluated: 1) 0 g/kg DDGS, 2) 150 g/kg DDGS, 3) 300 g/kg DDGS, 4) 450 g/kg of DDGS, 5) 600 g/kg of DDGS. 400 Nellore cattle will be allocated in collective pens for 120 days, fed with the experimental diets, in a randomized block design. During this period, dry matter intake (DMI), average daily gain (ADG), feed efficiency (EA) and carcass traits will be evaluated. Nitrous oxide gas (N2O) will be collected inside the collective pens during the confinement period. The metabolism experiment will be conducted with 20 animals cannulated in the rumen, consuming the same experimental diets. N balance, ruminal fermentation, enteric CH4 production and blood parameters will be evaluated. The data will be analyzed in the SAS software, the treatments compared using test of means. The declared significance will be Pd0.05. (AU)
