Abstract

The Post-Doctoral project proposed will be composed by 4 performance and 3 metabolism experiments with feedlot finishing cattle to evaluate corn distillers by-products produced in the USA and in Brazil. The Experiment 1 will be conducted at the Feedlot Research Center of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. In this study, 60 feedlot cattle will be individually fed diets containing corn grain diets with and without rumen undegraded supplemental protein (0 or 5%) or diets containing distillers grains replacing part of the corn with or without rumen undegraded supplemental protein (0 or 5%). Cattle performance variables and observed diets NEm and NEg values will be evaluated. The experiment 2 will be conducted at the Nutripura Research Center in Pedra Preta - MT. In this study, 1.000 Nellore bulls will be fed finishing diets containing 0, 15, 30 or 45% of DDBS (dry distillers brans plus solubles) in replacement of whole cottonseed, cottonseed cake and ground corn (partially). Cattle performance variables and the observed NEm and NEg values of tested diets will be evaluated. The experiment 3 will be conducted at ESALQ-USP in Piracicaba - SP. In this study, 240 Nellore bulls will be fed finishing diets containing 0, 15, 30 or 45% of WDBS (wet distillers brans plus solubles) in replacement of soybean meal and ground corn (partially). Cattle performance variables and the observed NEm and NEg values of tested diets will be evaluated. The experiment 4 will be conducted at ESALQ-USP in Piracicaba - SP. In this study, 288 Nellore bulls will be fed a control (soybean meal + corn) finishing diet or diets containing, HPDG (high protein distillers grains), WDBS (wet distillers brans plus solubles) or DDBS (dry distillers brans plus solubles). Cattle performance variables and the observed NEm and NEg values of tested diets will be evaluated. The experiments 5, 6 and 7 will be conducted at ESALQ-USP in Piracicaba - SP. In these metabolism studies 4 rumen cannulated Nellore steers will be used in a 4 x 4 Latin Square design. The treatment diets will be the same of the performance experiments 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Rumen fermentation parameters, nutrient intakes and digestibilities and efficiency of N utilization will be evaluated. (AU)
