Abstract

Approximately 14% of the food produced annually is wasted between the stages of harvesting and the retail market, whereas 17% of the food is wasted in retail and also by consumers (FAO, 2019; UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME, 2021).The fruit and vegetable sector of the regions of Europe, Industrialized Asia and North America produce an average of 12% of losses in processing, packaging and distribution stages. In Latin America in these same stages, losses are equivalent to 32% of production (FAO, 2011). Considering this context, the focus of this proposal is to assess four types of in-natura food from the Brazilian market, more specifically produced in the State of São Paulo, for systemic adequacy aiming at: a) suitability of the packaging system; b) identification of traceability management processes and models that can be used as models or guidelines for national systems and c) assessment of the current destination of packaging in Brazil and the impact of the changes aimed at improving the environmental performance of packaging. The activities developed at Cetea (Ital) will be conducted together with the Laboratory of Learning in Logistics and Transportation of Unicamp School of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism, with supervision of Prof. Dr. Orlando Fontes Lima Jr. The start was a study of a Research Scholarship abroad from FAPESP (Process no. 2022/04558-5) for the researcher responsible for this proposal. The researcher got training and suggestions to improve the project proposal initially submitted through supervision of the host researcher, Prof. Dr. Fredrik Nilsson, from the Department of Design Sciences of Lund University in Sweden, who works in the Logistics Packaging Research Line.
