EMU: Acquisition of liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to support projects and provide services in the field of food, agriculture and livestock.

Abstract

The requested EMU refers to a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The quadrupole mass analyzer is the most popular due mainly to its simplicity, relatively low price, good linearity in quantitative analysis, ease of understanding and operation. By using mild ionization of the analytes, low voltages and atmospheric pressure, it allows the production of ions based on compounds of large molecular mass and non-volatile, extending the application of MS to the most diverse types of molecules. Therefore, the aforementioned EMU will enable the determination of the structure and/or confirmation of chemical identification, as well as the rapid quantification of biomolecules, such as phenolic compounds, terpenoids, mycotoxins, feed contaminants, pesticides, bioactive peptides, carbohydrates, lipids, etc., of great importance for agriculture and the food industry. It will also be used to serve the academic community and the food and agriculture industry, in the identification and quantification of the most varied molecules of interest, in addition to monitoring pesticides and checking food fraud.
