Abstract

The aim in this research project is to develop decision support systems based on networks and geographic information systems. The focus on spatial distribution will be used in the problems and applications. Considering the previous experience of the members of the project, the emphasis will be on urban applications, taking into account the urban network with digitalized data and maps. Also the identification, study and solution of problems related to networks in the agricultural and telecommunication environments will be initiated. One main goal of the project is to provide useful tools for decision-makers in order to solve problems such as facility location, vehicle routing, transportation problems and other related problems. These problems deserve attention since they arise in many applications and are considered difficult problems to solve. New algorithms for solving some of these problems have been successfully developed by members of this project. An important phase of the project will be the collection and analysis of geographically referenced data in order to generate practical applications. The basic research team is formed by experienced researchers that have been worked together in previous thematic projects, and will permit practical applications defined for some Vale do Paraíba cities.
