Few-body systems, their correlations and applications in many-body physics

Abstract

This project is comprised of the study of few-body correlations and their role in many-body systems in the areas of fundamental, nuclear, hadronic and atomic physics. Its aim is to provide continuity to the research performed in these areas by the principal investigators, in their several collaborations. Particularly, we intend to continue our investigation that was focused in a previous thematic project (FAPESP 99/04583-1), where relevant results were obtained, considering the original objectives. Such thematic, besides the support that improve the conditions for a better scientific work, it also allowed the participants to reach better projections in the international context. As a result, we started collaborations with group of researchers in relevant institutions, as the group of ultra-cold atoms from the Rice University (Tucson, EUA), the Max Planck Institute (Heidelberg, Germany), GSI (Darmstadt, Germany). La Sapienza and Tar Vergata Universities (Roma, Italia), Open University (London, England), GANIL (France), JINR (Dubna, Russia), and others. Researchers of our group have been receiving invitations to present the results of our work in international institutions and conferences, and to participate in the organization of international conferences. We emphasize, for example, that we are invited to organize the '18th International IU-P AP Conference on Few Body Physics' in Brazil. This conference is the most important in our research area, and it is scheduled to be organized in Santos, São Paulo, in August. 2006. The scientific production obtained in the previous thematic, that we intend to provide continuity, can be verified through the report that is attached, or through the curriculum of the main researchers. We also note that, during the period of the previous thematic, five students attached to the thematic, got their PhD diploma under the guidance of the researchers of this project. We also had the participation of several pos-docs in our projects. One of main achievements, in this respect, was the performance of one of our pos-docs, Arnaldo Gammal. This researcher, after a relevant collaboration with the experimental group of Rice University, and mainly due to his works in atomic condensation, got a position in the Instituto de Física da USP (São Paulo University). Actually he is also a fellow of CNpq. Considering his contributions and future possibilities, we are including this researcher between the main researchers of this thematic. So, in the actual project we have four main researchers: Two researchers from the Physics Department of ITA, São José dos Campos (Brett Vern Carlson and Tobias Frederico), one researcher from the Physics Institute of USP, São Paulo (Arnaldo Gammal), and one researcher from the Instituto de Física Teórica (IFT), of UNESP (Lauro Tomio)...
