Hadron-Quark transition in the relativistic effective models framework: the QCD ph...
Investigation of high-energy and high-density astrophysical phenomena
Abstract
This thematic project is devoted to study the relationship between strongly interacting matter which populates the QCD phase diagram at high chemical potential and T = 0, with its physical realization (compact stars and their birth events, supernovae and GRBs) constituting nature's natural laboratories. We shall attempt to model the stellar structure and dynamics which can be directly related to the observed phenomenology from high-quality data (stellar spectra, pulsar timing, cooling curves, etc.) with the aim of evaluating the presence of hadronic and quark states in the interiors, without restricting ourselves to 'classical' tests (masses in binary systems), but rather using them as a part of the body of evidence to be accommodated. We shall dedicate attention to microphysics and hydrodynamics of exotic models which postulate the appearance of quark matter (particularly in their self-bound versions SQM and CFL SQM) as an important ingredient for supernova explosions and GRBs. Exact models and relativistic stellar structure will be studied to include electric charge and magnetic fields, not only because of their intrinsic interest but also for the possible applications to actual stellar systems. Finally we shall try to unravel basic unknown facts about magnetars (SGRs and AXPs), considered both as peculiar stellar systems but also because their relation with fundamental questions referred to dense matter in extreme magnetic fields.
