Abstract
The creation of a Critical Embedded Systems Institute is proposed in this project. The general objective of this institute is to raise the knowledge, competence and quality of this country in the development of this type of system. We consider that this is a very important technology to support the development of strategic areas for Brazil, such as environment, security and defense, and agriculture. This project is comprehensive and encompasses research groups of nine Brazilian universities and seven companies. The main specific goals are the development of research for the construction of critical embedded systems, emphasizing mobile autonomic vehicles, and the construction of at least two prototypes of this type of vehicle: one aerial and one terrestrial. The aim is that they are transferred to the associated companies and that they will take care of their fabrication and commercialization. Other relevant goals are the production of a methodology that documents all the knowledge generated in the project and that this document is used for training personnel in this area; production of master and Ph.D. graduates; and publication of scientific and technological papers in conferences and journals of the area, as well as patents.
