Abstract

In poultry industry, Lactobacillus as a probiotic bacteria is being frequently used showing satisfactory results with improvement of birds zootecnic rates and intestine protection against pathogenic bacteria colonization, as Salmonella spp., by competitive exclusion mechanisms. Some points have to be observed for choosing Lactobacillus probiotic strains, like adhesion on birds' gastrointestinal tract, what influences directly another important property of probiotics microorganisms: immunomodulation. This study has as objective the characterization of the adhesion and immunomodulatory effect of Lactobacillus strains isolated from birds. The Lactobacillus species will be identified using PCR with posterior sequencing of the isolates. The in vitro adhesion will be evaluated by using BMM cellular matrix and in vivo adhesion by cFDA-SE cellular labeling. The strains that show better adhesion results will be tested for IgA (intestinal wash) and IgG (intestinal wash and blood) induction in birds challenged with Salmonella Enteritidis. (AU)
