Abstract

One of the main obstacles to the success of bone healing and creation of new bone formation is very rapid and epithelial tissue disorders. Since the'50s and'60s has emerged in the scientific literature some studies questioning the capacity for regeneration of bone tissue. According to them, the bone can be regenerated in more predictable when isolated from the surrounding tissue. The migration of these soft tissues may hinder or entirely prevent osteogenesis in the defect or the surgical area. One of the factors threatening the development bone, related to this migration, is the production of fibroblasts by soluble factors inhibiting the bone cell differentiation and osteogenesis. The principle of physically seal an anatomic site to improve the healing of certain types of tissue and direct the tissue regeneration has been achieved through the use of a mechanical barrier. Based in that regard, this study aims to develop membranes of composite-based gelatin/chitosan coated with hydroxyapatite or not, to be used as a mechanical barrier. The concern of this work will be to obtain membranes with ideal characteristics such as rigidity and flexibility, thickness and porosity appropriate, easy handling and solubility controlled to maintain the space for long enough to allow the proliferation of tissues. For it is a multidisciplinary field, it is important to facilitate and strengthen collaboration with other researchers from the Department, contributing to the nucleation of a new group of research in the field of Biomaterials and Biosensors, in the Laboratory of Biomaterials and Biosensors - BioLab (newly created) in the Faculty of Zootecnia and Food Engineering of the University of Sao Paulo - Campus of Pirassununga - SP.
