Evaluation of the tissue response to MTA Obtura®, Endo-CPM-Sealer® e Sealapex®

Abstract

Root canal obturation comprehends the filling of the space created by the instrumentation with materials that have adequate physical and biological properties, which can favor the healing. New materials are frequently launch in the market and need to be correctly analyzed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the tissue response to implanted polyethylene tubes filled with MTA Obtura®, Endo-CPM-Sealer® and Sealapex®. Thirty rats will individually receive three polyethylene tubes filled with the materials and one more empty tube as control. The observation periods will be 7, 15, 30, 60 e 90 days. After each period of time, six animals will be killed and the tubes and surrounding tissue removed, fixed and prepared to be analyzed in light microscope with glycol methacrylate embedding, 3 mm serial cutting and HE staining or 10 mm serial cutting and Von Kossa staining or not stained for polarized light. Scores will be defined as follows: 0, none or few inflammatory cells, no reaction; 1, <25 cells, mild reaction; 2, 25 to 125 cells, moderate reaction; 3, >125 cells, severe reaction. Fibrous capsule was categorized as "thin" when thickness was < 150 ¼m and "thick" at > 150 ¼m. Necrosis and formation of calcification were recorded. The data will be statistically analyzed using Kruskal Wallis test. (AU)
