Abstract

Garlic is propagated by bulbs which is a practice that provide the transmission and spread of pathogens in the field, especially virus. Garlic can be infected by viruses belonging to the genera: Allexivirus, Carlavirus and Potyvirus. In Brazil there is not much information about the species occurring in garlic, so the objective of this work is evaluate the occurrence and identify the species of potyvirus and carlavirus infecting garlic in producing areas of south and southeast of the country and develop molecular techniques for the diagnostic of these species. There will be done survey of the occurrence of these genera in the main producing regions of Brazil. The complete genome of Leek yellow stripe virus (LYSV) will be sequenced. Virus concentration will be evaluated at 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120 days using Real time PCR and ELISA. These data will allow understanding the viral kinetics in leaves and bulbs, indicating the best time for sampling and detection of viruses. Garlic plants cv. Caçador free of virus, obtained in the Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas, UNESP, Campus de Botucatu, cultivated under greenhouse conditions with anti-aphids screen, will be analyzed for three cycles of culture, the productivity in comparison to the material commonly used by producers, cultivated on a commercial crop in high inoculum pressure. The evaluation of re-infection will be analyzed the percentage of plants infected by each genus of viruses described above. (AU)
