Abstract

Rotaviruses are the responsible for the diarrhea occurrence in many animal species and humans, with impact in animal and public health and economic losses. Despite the fact that they are widely spread in Brazilian pig farming, there are few reports that aimed at the identification of circulating strains. In doing so, the objective of this project is to characterize all encoding genes of non-structural proteins (NSP1, NSP2, NSP3, NSP4, NSP5, NSP6) ans structural VP4 and VP7, among positive rotavirus samples from fecal material, using a RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription - Polymerase Chain Reaction), followed by the genetic sequencing. According to phylogenetic inferences , it will be discussed the genetic variability found with regard to the disease's epidemiology, including the diagnosis, pathogeny and zoonotic aspects, once the animal rotaviruses can be a source for viral diversity for human viral strains. It will provide a better surveillance of rotavirus, provided that the approach of specific prophylactic measures for this agent, among then the vaccine development, has depends on the information generated by this work.
