Synthesis of enantioselective solid catalysts: the intellectual, technological and synthetic challenge of chiral zeolites

Abstract

The goal of this project is the synthesis of completely chiral zeolites. There are several possible theoretical chiral zeolites, however until now there is no register in the literature of a synthesis of a complete chiral zeolite. This project will concentrate efforts on the synthesis of the chiral polymorphs of the zeolite beta and titanosilicate ETS-10. In order to synthesize a chiral zeolite chiral structure directing agents (SDAS) are essencial therefore a new family of SDAs derivated from chiral diamines, naphthyridines and compounds with C3 symmetry will be prepared and used in several sol-gel conditions. A successful synthesis chiral zeolite will be a landmark event in the field of zeolite chemistry and the possible of applications of a such materials are immense. I intend to use these chiral zeolites in different studies such as heterogenous asymmetric catalysis and green chemistry, synthesis of intermediates for naproxen, asymmetric oxidation of sulfides, hydrogen storage, desulfurization of transportation fuels and biomolecular evolution.
