Abstract

Previous studies have indicated that the running strategy, defined as manner which the athletes distribute the velocity and the energy expenditure during an event, has a significant impact on performance in long distance events. The running economy has a great importance among the physiological variables that influence the choice of the running strategy. It has been described in literature that strength training is able to improve the running economy. Consequently, it seems attractive to suspect that the adaptations promoted by strength training are able to modify the running economy and, consequently, the pacing of long distance athletes. Therefore, we intend to investigate the impact of a strength training program in running pacing. The hypotheses of the study is that the strength training is able to improve the running economy, resulting in the modification on pacing adopted by runners during the simulation on 10km running race.
