Evaluation of the effect of thickness, technique of application and cooling protocol of veneering ceramics in the fracture resistance and microtensile bond strength of Y-TZP ceramic

Abstract

This study will be divided into two parts: Part I will assess the influence of cooling rate, the application technique and the thickness of veneering ceramic on fracture resistance and the emergence of chippings, in Part II, the study proposes to assess the influence of these factors on the microtensile bond strength. In the first part will be made 80 bars of Y-TZP (20 mm x 4 mm x 1.2 mm) to be divided into 8 groups according to the mode of application (stratified technical and pressed technical), thickness (1 mm and 4 mm) and cooling rate (10° C s-1/min and 50° C s-1/min) of two types of veneering ceramic. All specimens shall be mechanically cycled with a load of 84 N for 2.106 cycles at a frequency of 3.4 Hz. Then, the specimens will be tested for flexural strength at 4 points and assessed for presence or absence of chipping through Optical Microscope with 10x magnification and Scanning Electron Microscopy. In the second part will be made 80 blocks of Y-TZP (10 mm x 7 mm x 5 mm) divided into 8 groups according to the mode of application (stratified technical and pressed technical), thickness (2 mm and 4 mm) and cooling rate (10° C s-1/min and 50° C s-1/min) of two types of veneering ceramic. The specimens will be sectioned into 1 mm2, which will be thermocycled with 1200 cycles (5 / 55° C) and submitted to microtensile bond test at a speed of 1mm/min. The specimens will be analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy to verify the types of fractures. In both parties the data will be submitted to ANOVA and Tukey test with alpha = 0.05. (AU)
