Abstract

This research involves the study of the Neoproterozoic evolution of some important geotectonic elements along the Transbrasiliano-Kandi Lineament in NE Brazil and NW Africa. Among these elements are the high grade rocks formed in the Neoproterozoic collisional front and the magmatic rocks of the granitic-migmatitic Tamboril-Santa Quitéria Complex, formed in the associated convergent zone. Robust geochronological studies, such as U-Pb SHRIMP and LA-ICP-MS on zircon, for the determination of precise ages of the igneous and metamorphic events, and 40Ar/39Ar thermochronological studies on minerals with distinct isotopic closure temperatures, will be carried on, in order to obtain a better scenario for the tectonic evolution of the rocks involved in Neoproterozoic collision. The main objectives of this work are: 1) determination of metamorphic ages, including the age of eclogitic metamorphism in the Ceará Central Domain and its equivalents in Africa, as well as the age of regional cooling during exhumation; 2) dating of the Tamboril-Santa Quitéria Complex, based on U-Pb in situ analyses in zircons to check its relation with the regional metamorphism; 3) interpretation of the tectonic environment and evolution of the Neoproterozoic chain, within the final dynamic process of formation of West Gondwana.
