Abstract

Emergency situations arise in people's lives unexpectedly, requiring quick action, objectively and effectively. Among these, the basic life support (BLS), which can be initiated outside the hospital and conducted by suitably qualified and trained lay people, it is essential to save lives and prevent complications. It is descriptive, exploratory study aimed to identify the skill (practice) and knowledge (theory) of undergraduate students in a public university, in the state of Sao Paulo, before and after undergoing the course / training. The study will be conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary, Animal Science, Institute of Biosciences and Nursing Course of Paulista State University - UNESP - Botucatu. Shall be considered eligible students enrolled in their courses and are enrolled in the first year of college. Data collection will be divided into two phases, the first dedicated to the evaluation of theoretical knowledge / practical before a course of theoretical and practical demonstration of CPR and other maneuvers used in emergency situations. In the second step is performed knowledge evaluation theoretical / practical after participation in the course / training. It is expected that students in this research have included training to identify and provide a pre-hospital care in emergency situations. Moreover, it is also expected to contribute to reducing mortality in pre-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest and injury prevention. (AU)
