Abstract

The canine pyometra is a bacterial infection that affects the uterus of sexually mature bitches and affects a quarter of whole animals before the ten years. The uterine infection produces a clinical syndrome known as sepsis and concomitant systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). When not treated properly the progression of the disease to more severe stages such as severe sepsis, a condition responsible for the dysfunction of one or more organs and septic shock is characterized by acute circulatory failure and persistent hypotension with fluid replacement. Some conditions directly influence the severity and predisposition, the type of insult, the host response to infectious insult, biomarkers of inflammation, measures of host response and organ dysfunction that occurs secondary to infection. The appropriate recognition of the seriousness of the case is a determining factor in the prognosis, decreased length of stay, cost of treatment and on patients' lives. Many studies have shown that the therapy should not be based only on clinical evaluation and routine as heart rate, blood pressure, color of mucous membranes and urine output, being necessary to obtain variables of oxygenation and tissue perfusion, evidence of inflammatory response, lactate, well as serum levels of TNF-± , IL-1 and IL-6. The hypothesis is that TNF-± , IL-1 and IL-6 affect the metabolism of different forms of animals affected by bacterial infection, thereby favoring the animals develop septic shock. To this end, a study that monitors the concentrations of cytokines and C-reactive protein in different animals of the canine species is of great value to the institution of early and adequate therapy in animals suffering from pyometra.The results obtained at different times will be compared statistically by means of parametric tests, using the method of multiple comparisons, analysis of variance for repeated measures (ANOVA).
