Abstract

This project aims to search for new biomarkers in the elderly. We use blood collected from young and elderly volunteers of the Hospital das Clinicas, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sao Paulo. This study aims to clarify how the elderly patient ages and characteristics of innate immunity in the process of senescence and as a predisposing factor for development of sepsis and other complex diseases, since age-related diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. We intend, therefore, carry out extensive gene expression analysis, in order to identify markers of senescence and molecules with critical role in the process of aging and illness in this population.
