Performance evaluation, chemical composition, and food processing of lambaris (Astyanax altiparanae) fed diets containing differents lipids sources supplemented with biotin and pantothenic acid

Abstract

One of the main nutrients, lipids plays important roles in physiological processes, in addition to being sources of essential fatty acids. Freshwater fish requires specially precursors of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6-n3), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5-n3) and arachidonic acid (AA, 20: 4-n6). Due to a decreased use of meal and oil fish due to the high cost of these ingredients, there is a tendency to seek alternative sources such as vegetable oils. However, this replacement modifies the fatty acid profile, decreasing the levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids n-3 in the tissue of fish, without losses in performance parameters. Nevertheless, the association of the compound sesamin, one of sesamin oil contents, with vegetable oil addicted to diets led to increased concentrations of DHA in muscle in rainbow trout. Owing to complexes vitamin B as biotin and pantothenic acid participates in the process of synthesis of fatty acids, their association with vegetable oils rich in polyunsaturated fatty acid precursors could improve the lipid profile of fishes. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the performance, chemical characteristics, oxidative stress, fatty acid profiles and food processing of lambari (Astyanax altiparanae) fed with diets containing sources of oils (soybean, flaxseed, sesamin and fish residue oil) supplemented by biotin and pantothenic acid in the period 0 to 90 days.
