Development of intelligent devices (electronic noses and tongues) using electrochemical, colorimetric and mass measurements aiming to the discrimination of forensic and food samples

Abstract

Currently the development of smart sensors, such as electronic noses and tongues, has gained importance in Analytical Chemistry and it is attracting great interest from several companies in the food, pharmaceutical and environmental sectors. However, as a recent area of research there is much to be done regarding the development of new sensors and combination of different techniques to extract information aiming to discriminate different samples using chemometric tools. In this context, this project aims to develop new electronic noses and tongues using information extracted from different instrumental techniques: electrochemical, colorimetric and mass (quartz crystal microbalance) to discriminate forensic and food samples. To this end, electronic tongues and noses will be develop always taking into account that the methodology is easily spread, reproducible and inexpensive, such as the construction of intelligent devices using paper for the colorimetric detection.
