Abstract

The literature on the base of the pyramid (BP) has highlighted the benefits of creating mutual value and opportunities for businesses and low-income population. However, academic studies have focused on the point of view of businesses, highlighting their strategies and the creation of new skills and business models to better serve the consumer of base of the pyramid. On the other hand, the population of BP has great potential for analysis, with emphasis on consumption profile and needs, income-generating and level of education, both at the current moment and a forecasting for the future. These are, therefore, fertile fields for academic studies, as well as relevant to society and companies. In this context, the main objective of the project is to draw a diagnosis of the population of BP and present a forecasting for the future, in the dimensions of consumption, income generation and education. The research methods to ensure the results involve conducting an initial diagnosis, based on secondary data, in addition to quantitative and qualitative primary data collection. After preparation of forward-looking research, diagnostics are performed with quantitative extrapolations, combined with qualitative approaches as the prospecting, Delphi method, in order to identify trends for BP in the future. Through this research project is intended to generate relevant knowledge to society, to be shared with the Academy, through scientific publications, and undergraduate and graduate students during teaching activities.
