Abstract

To extract and fractionate phenolic compounds from matrix of plant origin, extracts of leaves of Baccharis dracunculifolia will be obtained by supercritical extraction in fixed bed with supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) at 60ºC and 400 bar and after they will be fractionated in separators, by pressure reducing, stage by stage from 300 bar to 80 bar, hydroalcoholic extracts of green propolis, of red propolis, of Eugenia uniflora leaves and of crajurú leaves (Arrabidaea chica) will be obtained by conventional methods and will after be fractionated selectively into separators by gradual reduction of pressure by using supercritical carbon dioxide as antisolvent. Aiming also extract and fractionate saponins, extracts of P. glomerata roots, the roots of Pfaffia paniculata and fruits of Melia azedarach, rich in saponins, will initially be produced by Soxhlet extraction with polar solvents and then will be fractionated using supercritical technology in two ways : 1) the fractionation of the dried extract using a fixed bed sequential extraction with supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2), scCO2/etanol and ethanol, and 2) the fractionation by precipitation from a water-alcohol solution using scCO2 as anti-solvent, a sequence of separators at 50ºC where the pressure is reduced from stage to stage 300 bar to 80 bar. In the latter case, the hydroalcoholic solution is produced from the resolubilization of dry extracts of Pfaffia and a solution of Melia ethanol: water 70:30 v:v. Ali samples will be characterized as income from extraction and fractionation and presence of phenolics, flavonoids, artepillin C (Bacharis and propolis) and antioxidant activity, anthocyanins in Arrabidaea, saponins in the roots of P. glomerata and P. paniculata and fruits of Melia azedarach. To this end, we intend to build a multi-purpose unit to be able to study different cases of extraction (conventional or scCO2) and conventional fractionation or supercritical extracts using supercritical technology, development and process optimization and scale (scale up) and able to produce extracts of industrial interest.
