Abstract

Infection is a major cause of morbidity and the second most frequent cause of mortality in patients with failure chronic renal disease. The S. aureus, coagulase negative Staphylococcus and Enterococcus spp are the main agents colonizing and causing infections in this population, as well as producing Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC). Considering the possibility of concomitant infection and colonization by S. aureus methilicin resistance (MRSA), S. aureus with intermediate resistance to vancomycin (VISA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) and KPC, we are motivated in this study. Objectives: i) determine the prevalence of colonization or infection, morbidity and mortality, ii) identify the risk factors, iii) to analyze the mode of dissemination and cross transmission -iv) determine the prevalence of resistance genes. Method: a cohort study in the Department of Dialysis and Transplantation of Unifesp which will be included 900 patients (conservative treatment, dialysis and transplantation). To determine the prevalence of colonization will be conducted surveillance of microorganisms: MRSA and VISA: through collection of nasal samples from all patients. Surveillance of VRE and KPC: through stool samples or rectal swab. Patients will be followed by a period of six months to record the morbid complications such as infection and causes of hospitalization and death. (AU)
