Abstract

This project aims at describing the nursing process at health agencies of the State of Sao Paulo, and identifying nursing process characteristics potentially associated to selected variables. Three projects are articulated; one of them will describe the operational characteristics of the nursing process at hospitals and outpatients settings; other one will analyze nursing process characteristics associated with agencies' variables; and the third one will study the same characteristics associated with baccalaureate and non-baccalaureate nurses' variables. All the hospitals and outpatients settings under direct administration of the State Health Secretary of the State of Sao Paulo will be invited to participate and the wards/sectors of each agency will be the unit of analysis to describe the nursing process (sub-project 1), and also to study associations of nursing process characteristics with agencies' variables (sub-project 2). A sample size of 328 baccalaureate nurses and 373 non-baccalaureate nurses was calculated for studying nurses' variables (sub-project 3); and the sampling method will allow for subjects from every agency. Data will be analyzed by descriptive statistics. Analytic statistics will be applied to test possible associations of operational characteristics of the nursing process with selected variables of the agencies and nurses. The results of this project will add to the nursing process knowledge, since there are not empirical data on factors associated with nursing process' operational characteristics, as well as they will serve to guide decisions concerned to local and central policies of nursing care organization.
