Abstract

The understanding of the problems, which the environmental noise pollution results in, and the employment of solutions in the process of building design to soften such problems are important for the improvement of the quality of life of the citizen, the community, and the city. This study focuses on the acoustic comfort, in dwellings, approaching the traffic noise attenuation, by means of walls, from the analysis of data gathered through measurements, interviews, physical and photographic surveys, based on the existing standards and recommendations and, the procedures suggested by the Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE). It will be verified the attenuation caused by the acoustic barriers, if they are introduced in front of unprotected dwellings and the importance of guidelines for the construction of noise barriers in the design of future housing developments.
