Hemodynamic and ventilatory effects of the HEAD-UP position in calves anesthetized with sevoflurane

Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the hemodynamic and ventilometric effects in calves anesthetized with sevoflurane and maintained at the head-up position of 5° degrees (Reverse Trendelenburg). For this, eight male calves will be used at which, in a first step the minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) will be determined using an electrical stimulation for pain model. After, the calves will be randomly assigned into two groups, control group (CG), table without tilt and tilt group (TG) table positioned with five degrees of inclination (Reverse Trendelenburg). The animals of both groups will be physically restrained and positioned at supine position on the operating table in the slope determined for each group. Anesthesia will be induced via face mask with sevoflurane administered diluted in oxygen (5L/min) at a concentration of 8%. After, tracheas will be intubated and the anesthesia maintained by the same volatile agent in an oxigen flow of 15 mL kg-1 minute-1 at an expired concentration of sevoflurane of 1.3 (MAC), adjusted according to the MAC of each animal previously established in the first phase the study. Then a period of 40 minutes will be awaited in order to obtain stability of anesthetic concentration and allow all the preparation of the animals. The evaluation of the parameters will be carried out immediately after the stabilization period of 40 minutes (T0), and after that at intervals of 15, 30, 60, 120 and 180 minutes. Data will be submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Bonferroni test (p<0,05). (AU)
