Abstract

This project intents on realize the bioassay-guide chemistry study from species of the genus Styrax, Arrabidaea and Anacardium with potential use as lipoxygenase (LO) inhibitors. The phytochemical research will be guided by LO inhibitory activity, using the 5-LO enzyme inhibition in vitro assay. The analysis methodologies to be used, will involve chromatographic separation techniques (CC, TLC, GC-MS, HPLC-DAD). The structural characterization of the isolated compounds will be performed using spectroscopic methods such as experiments of 1D and 2D NMR, IR, UV and MS. Thus, the main goal of this proposal will be identifying natural compounds with lipoxygenase inhibitory activity, also evaluating the cytotoxic properties from the species: S. ferrugineus, S. camporum, S. pohlii, Arrabidaea pulchra and Anacardium othonianum and others that are eventually collected during the project. This project will contribute to the ongoing natural products research in the GPNUF laboratory (Grupo de Pesquisa em Produtos Naturais UNIFRAN), to the human resource formation, and with the UNIFRAN M.D.and Ph.D. Program in Science (Capes, score 5).
