Abstract

Through this research, I seek to carry forward the work done in two postdoctoral researches conducted at USP and at Università "La Sapienza" di Roma, both with grants from FAPESP. The theme common to all of these moments is the intermittent continuity between modern literature and medievael literature. The research should be organized in two parallel movements: one specifically theoretical, facing authors who have in the study of such continuity a decisive step of their works, and other practical (critical- historiographical). In the center of what I called theoretical movement, there will be a reading of the critical-philological proposals of Aby Warburg, Ernst Robert Curtius, Walter Benjamin and Gianfranco Contini, especially in light of the resumption of such proposals by more recent authors such as Giorgio Agamben and Georges Didi-Huberman. My aim is a renewed understanding of the question of literary image from the discernment of possible intersections between three key concepts: Pathosformel, topos and dialectical image. In turn, in which I called practical or critical-historiographical movement, I plan to continue studying the topic of waste land, now also examining its possible links with the notion of survival. In the conjunction between waste land and survival, I also intend to seize certain lines of intermittent continuity between modern and contemporary moments of Brazilian literature, especially in poetry.
