Abstract

The summer of 2013/2014 was one of the driest of the last 25 years in São Paulo province, Brazil. It brings direct effects and impacts in the water cycle, decreasing groundwater recharge and springs production, contributing even more for water scarcity. In parallel with the decreasing offer, we have an increasing consumption for urban, industrial and agricultural purposes. The aim of this project is monitor water table fluctuations at Bauru Aquifer System (BAS) in a conservation are in Águas de Santa Bárbara/SP, Brazil. The Brugre, Passarinho and Santana creek watersheds present its springs in the boundaries of Santa Bárbara Ecological Station, under the sediments of Adamantina formation from Bauru Group. These watersheds are important contributors of Pardo River, major water body of Medio Paranapanema basin and present advanced stages of degradation. It not only compromises the water quality but can also decrease the water production of the watershed in long term. It is expected from the implementation of a hydro-climatological network to verify the effect of accumulated rainfall from the 2014/2015 hydrological year in the water availability and behavior of BAS using an autoregressive time series model. The approach separates the effect of atypical rainfall events estimating time trends on groundwater levels. (AU)
