Abstract

Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are vectors of arboviruses and compete for the same ecological niche. Competitive displacement occurs between these two species and usually there is a population expansion of A. albopictus in parallel with a significant population decline of A. aegypti. There are many mechanisms for competitive displacement, and recent studies proved that satirização (a form of reproductive interference) leads Aedes albopictus displacement reproductive.A. aegypti female satirized by males of A. albopictus, become refractory to cross intraspecific addition, the cross between these two species do not produce viable offspring. This shift in favor of the population A. albopictus, causes a drastic loss for reproductive females of A. aegypti satirized is therefore provided a selection for the pre-zygotic isolation in populations of A. albopictus sympatric with A. aegypti. This project aims to observe satyrization between A. aegypti and A. albopictus in Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil, and analysis of the transcriptome aiming to clarify the molecular basis of this mechanism of displacement. The study has great importance epidemiological, since both species were introduced in Brazil, and are responsible for transmission to a serious illness in the country, dengue. (AU)
