Abstract

Add new methodologies for biological control and integrated pest management (IPM) are basic requirements to the development of a more sustainable agriculture. Therefore, the use of plant extracts and natural enemies associated or not, will have increase demand for the control of insect pest population levels. However, current research has refuted the idea that natural compounds with biopesticides properties are safer than synthetic compounds on species of non-target insects such as natural enemies, among them lacewings. Because they are predators at the larval stage with a wide variety of prey and high reproductive potential in adulthood, the lacewings, among these Ceraeochrysa claveri, are excellent biological models for toxicity and viability analysis of its use associated with natural compounds in cultures that prioritize maintenance of biodiversity. The knowledge of the cellular response of three vital organs (midgut, testes and ovaries) for the maintenance of the specie C. claveri after exposure to the biopesticide neem oil, and the evaluation of the midgut epithelium renew capacity of the adult and its connection to the reproductive process of this insect are important and unpublished results that will bring new contribution in the detection and characterization of the sub-lethal effects that could damage the continuity of a natural biological control in an agroecosystem where it makes use of neem oil and could compromise the perpetuation of the non target species because of the morphological changes their reproductive potential.
