Performance of prosthetic rehabilitation materials

Abstract

Currently, dentistry uses several ceramic materials in search of better aesthetics and long-term resistance. Although the literature on the performance of prosthetic materials for rehabilitation is vast, a range of materials with different microstructural and compositional aspects has recently been launched, leading to new research questions that deserve attention. Some of these materials, such as ceramics based on lithium silicate reinforced by zirconia (ZLS; VITA Suprinity, Vita Zahnfabrik) and hybrid ceramic (porcelain and polymer; VITA Enamic, Vita Zahnfabrik), can have their performance enhanced by techniques that have not been analyzed yet. Thus, this study aims to (1) analyze the influence of new laboratory techniques for making bilaminated specimens; (2) evaluate the strength of enamel, dentin and margin ceramics in mono- and multilayred specimens; (3) investigate the influence of surface treatments on the bond strength between the fairly new ZLS ceramic and resin cement; (4) study the relationship between techniques of removing excess resin cement and the biofilms formation in a feldspathic ceramic; (5) evaluate the biofilm formation in new materials for prosthetic abutments (Y-TZP and hybrid ceramic). The data will be statistically analyzed and discussed across the literature. (AU)
