Abstract

The analysis of human body composition is of great importance for the understanding of the health status of different population groups, given the correlations and associations of its different body components with inflammation and disease, especially body fat, lean, musculoskeletal and bone mass. Among the main diseases studied today with higher association with the analysis of body composition in humans, sarcopenia appears as a critical condition for older people with multiple factors and consequences, especially for the occurrence of incapacity, frailty, greater dependence to carry out activities of daily living, less autonomy and reduced quality of life. Different are the possibilities to assess body components to identify sarcopenia, which can be mentioned the evaluation of musculoskeletal mass from anthropometric measurements, bioimpedance, dual energy x-ray absorptiometry and more advanced and less accessible methodologies, such as MRI and CT scans. Along with the assessment of lean and soft tissues, it is also necessary to assess the fat component, since sarcopenic obesity is a greater risk factor for frailty process, disability and mortality. The same methodologies with different analyzes, may be used to evaluate the fat mass. Within this scenario, the update on the possibilities for measuring the different components of body composition, and the different forms of assessment, and also the knowledge of criteria and standards for classification of the elderly, and even adults, according to different proposals, is extremely important to scientific advances, whether in the preparation and implementation of projects, whether in scientific writing for publication of articles and abstracts for events. The objective of this proposal is to conduct scientific event at the School of Sciences and Technology of the Universidade Estadual Paulista "Julio de Mesquita Filho" with the participation of internationally recognized researcher in the area of body composition, in order to be in touch with the state of art in this area, present the projects carried out within the proposing institution and establish links between groups and laboratories for joint production projects and scientific papers. The event will include, in the first full day of the researcher in the city, the presentation of the institution to the researcher, with meeting with the direction of unity, coordination and leaders of the groups of the department. On the second day, there will be a specific event the of the Group of Study and Research in Epidemiology, Aging and Exercise (GEPEEEx), with presentation of ongoing projects, and works of undergraduation students, master's and doctorate, linked to the study group. On the third day, the visitor along with the requesting teacher, will minister a course entitled "Body Composition: principles, techniques and updates," with theoretical and practical parts, also organized by GEPEEEx. On the fourth day, a final evaluation meeting of the visit will be held, to set new events to continue the partnership. (AU)
