Higher order models for waves in nonlinear, dispersive media

Abstract

This research project is prepared for the visit of Professor Jerry Bona from Univeristy of Illinois at Chigago. We are interested in continuing our earlier work that consists of studying the problems related to the existence and other properties of solutions of the higher order nonlinear dispersive equations. Specially, we will focus our study on the recently derived fifth order KdV-BBM type model (see the article of Bona, Carvajal, Panthee & Scialom in the bibliografy [1] of the project). During the visit, Professor Bona will give a lecture in Differential Equations Seminar at the Department of Mathematics and will also offer a mini-course of 3 days duration entitled "Novos desafios na pesquisa das equações diferenciais parciais não lineares do tipo dispersivo", from 23 to 27 May 2016.
