Abstract

Airports are considered strategic elements for the economic development of regions and countries, considering that are integration agents and facilitators of the relationship of supply and consumption for high value-added items and / or high level of obsolescence. When looking at the overall scenario, particularly regarding to international airports it is possible to see that in recent years due to the growth of cargo and passenger traffic, new regulations, new routes service, new low cost companies , the proliferation of airline alliances, the interconnection of medium-sized airports by rail and road transport and privatization, has forced airports to maintain excellence in its operations maximizing efficiency, which leads to reduced costs and increase of competitiveness. However, airports are complex organizations whose performance depends on a variety of operations such as loading and unloading of the aircraft traffic control air and ground cargo handling, maintenance of security and third-party management, as a service support, shops and food courts. Considering this scenario, this project has the main objective to understand how operations management practices can influence the efficiency at international airports. By achieving this goal, it is expected that this project will bring two major contributions: the first is scientific because the available literature on the subject there is no consensus about what are these practices and the second is that from these findings may be possible to suggest improvements the operations of Brazilian international airports, seeking to improve their competitiveness (AU)
