Abstract

Antiretroviral therapy changed the overview of AIDS around the world, however, its toxic effects on the body are associated with metabolic and body composition, and increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Diet plays an important role in the control ofcardiovascular disease, and the omega 3 has been reported in the literature as a protector ofthese diseases, mostly attributed to its anti-inflammatory function and improvement in thelipid profile. Objective: To evaluate the effect of supplementation of omega-3 lipid profile, and markers of inflammation and oxidative stress in HIV positive adults on antiretroviraltherapy. Methodology: We will have a double-blind randomized clinical trial, for 12 weekswith 3 groups: placebo group (5 capsules of 1 g of soybean oil / day; n = 30); OP2 group (2capsules 1g fish oil + 3 capsules of 1 g of soy / day oil; n = 30); OP5 group (5 receivecapsules of fish oil 1g / day, n = 30). Each fish oil capsule contains 420mg of EPA and220mg of DHA (VitalFish). Analyze before and after the intervention: the lipid profile, serum fatty acid profile, inflammatory markers (TNF-±, IL-6 and C-reactive protein),oxidative stress markers (MDA, GSH, vitamin A and E). Also assess body composition bydual photon absorptiometry (DXA), and characterize food intake by food recall 24 hours.Statistical analysis: SPSS; analysis of variance (ANOVA) factor of 1; significance valueadmitted p <0.05; and Tukey's post-test to assess differences between groups.
