Abstract

This project aims to accomplish the bioprospecting for natural compounds and bioactive derivatives with anticancer activity. The compounds to be tested (plant extracts, active fractions, isolated compounds and bioactive compounds) are from different research centers within and outside the institution. Initially, 25 isolated compounds and bioactive compounds provided by Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science - UNICAMP, Biodiversity and Sustainability Laboratory - UNESP and Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory - USF will be evaluated for their potential antiproliferative activity in cultured human tumor. Furthermore, they will be evaluated for the ability to prevent cell invasion and colony formation. The most promising compounds will be targeted for in vivo (Ehrlich solid tumor) testing and their mechanism of action will be evaluated by western blotting and flow cytometry, key techniques to investigate cell death process. The approaches described herein are fundamental to identify potential antitumor compounds, candidates for future clinical trials, aiming at developing a new anticancer drug originated from Brazilian biodiversity.
