Abstract

Congenital heart disease is considered a major cause of infant mortality. Since it can be treated, appropriate care to this population may decrease the mortality rate. This project aims to assess the impact of risk factors on mortality in patients with congenital heart disease undergoing surgical therapy in children under 18 years admitted under the Unified Health System (SUS), creating a consortium of accredited services, evaluating the assisted population profile, applicability of international scores in our settings, analyzing hospital results, budgets and costs of diagnostic programs, complementary or interventionist, and of surgical therapies for congenital heart disease aiming to identify opportunities for improvements for the state system. The congenital Heart Defects ASSIST Registry with the São Paulo State Health Secretariat should be structured and implemented amid registered patients through international scores calculation, to perform six-monthly stratified blind analyses averages in order to support each center to self-assessments in comparisons with the common average. Consensus meetings will be realized with the participating centers and managers. The project aims to provide data on annual mortality rates per risk stratum to the São Paulo State Health Secretariat to implement improvements in the healthcare of SUS treated patients and to provide the matrix accounting for strength of influence of significant risk factors on outcomes and costs.
