Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the supplementation with calcium salt of palm oil (CSPO) in dairy cows grazing on tropical pastures. Three experiments will be conducted. In experiments 1 (Exp. 1), 2 (Exp. 2) and 3 (Exp. 3) supplementation levels with CSPO will be: T1 = Control (no added CSPO); T2 = 200 g/day; T3 = 400 g/day; and T4 = 600 g/day. In Exp. 1, 40 Holstein cows will be used in a randomized block design and supplemented with CSPO during 90 lactation days (average from 16 to 105 LD). Supplementation effects will be evaluated in all lactation (until 285 LD) on performance, milk quality and energy secreted in the milk and efficiency in energy use. Exp. 2 will be conducted to evaluate the metabolic-hormonal and parameters respectively. In Exp. 3, eight rumen-cannulated cows (15 LD) will be used in a repplicated Latin square design, wherein will be measured: ruminal parameters, fractional rate of ruminal degradation, ruminal protozoa number, N microbial synthesis and N efficiency use. Data will be analyzed by SAS 9.4 (PROC MIXED). Significances levels will set at Pd 0.05. (AU)
