Abstract

Nanostructured systems with mucoadhesive properties have great potential to be employed in drug release. These systems may increase the residence time of the systems at the site of action or absorption, enhancing drug contact with the mucosal epithelial barrier. The increased of the residence time and of the accumulation of drugs at pathological sites associated with drug controlled release can be enhance the effective concentration of drug at the site of action or absorption and increase therapeutic efficacy, as well as minimize the side-effects. The nanostructured systems have a high surface area and possibility of modulation of surface charge that can modify the properties of distribution and transport of drugs through the biological membranes. These systems have potential to a wide variety of applications especially within of protection against chemical and / or enzymatic degradation and gastrointestinal environment. The main aim this project is to analyze the effects of nanoparticles based in chitosan (QS), hydroxypropylmethylcellulose phthalate (HPMC) and hyaluronic acid (HA) in the interaction with mucus and in the intestinal mucosa permeation of methotrexate and zidovudine (AU)
